Starting in high school I found myself drawn towards creative aspects in the world. Starting with graphics and photography, my interest in art was born. I went from high school to Sussex County Community College and delved deeper into the graphics and design side of creating. Upon graduation I continued my learning at William Paterson University. At WPU I planned to expand my general knowledge and abilities in all other aspects of Fine Art. While doing that I became enamored with 3D and sculpture. I eventually found my outlet in wood. With those experiences under my belt I was afforded the opportunity to teach Woodturning at WPU. Years after that I am now given the chance to help and assist the upcoming artists and designers at Purdue University in their Industrial Design program.
Currently I work with wood and the lathe. I create functional and non-functional pieces, filling a desire for the utilitarian and the abstract. While some pieces come from a more structured process of cultivation, I prefer more abstract sources of material. These sources of wood have more naturally occurring shapes and attributes. This make the pieces more unique and sculptural. To put it in other terms I like to find the beauty in disregarded and rejected pieces of wood, for others that maybe no better than firewood for them.
